Hi, my name is Charl Anne Brew, and I am WONDERFUL!

Why am I wonderful? Well, I’m joyful, friendly, and I love to have fun. Writing and illustrating picture books, making stickers, and card games for children is what I do.

My favorite childhood memories include playing in my Dad’s garage where I would fashion bits of wood with hammer and nails, to create imaginary places for my animals and dolls to live and play, dressing up in the fabulous dresses and high heels my Aunt Edna sent me, (with lipsticks hidden in purses and pockets), and drawing and writing stories with my friends.

My winding road through college continued to straddle writing, narrative works and education. I studied art history, drawing, sculpture, and digital mixed media. I earned a BFA at the State University of New York at Albany, then several masters degrees from College of Saint Rose, George Mason University and The Academy of Art University in San Francisco. Some of my friends say that I like to collect degrees!

I worked many different jobs. I think one of the most memorable was when I worked in a taco factory bagging tacos on an assembly line. By far my favorite work is with children. I became the Story Lady at a library in the children’s department. The experience expanded to preschools, and elementary schools. I then taught art at every grade level before I began instructing at colleges. I think these experiences showed me that I was born to write and illustrate for children.

Some fun things to know about me are: I love watching Sponge Bob Squarepants cartoons — Reading Rainbow is still one of my favorite shows. I like making up songs to sing to my doggie, Darby, when we walk. Building sand castles is supercalifragilisticexpialidocious. Do you save earthworms stuck on the road? Me too! And I love, love, love reading, writing, and illustrating children’s books.
